On Tuesday 3 December 2019, Moree was declared a Special Activation Precinct investigation area, thanks to the $4.2 billion Snowy Hydro Legacy Fund delivered by the NSW Government.
So what is a Special Activation Precinct?
A Special Activation Precinct (SAP) is a dedicated area in a regional location identified by the NSW Government to become a thriving business hub. This State-led initiative will help to create jobs, attract businesses and investors and drive economic growth, bringing together planning and investment support services.
What this means for Moree
The new Precinct will create long-term job opportunities and attract investors, making it easier for both new and existing businesses to thrive, and strengthening the region’s economy.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, businesses that set up in the SAP will have access to necessary common-user infrastructure such as heavy-duty roads and digital connectivity. Support from a business concierge service will fast-track planning processes, ensuring they are established quickly and successfully.
Freight and logistics
Moree is set to become a true intermodal hub with road, rail and air transport links available, including connection to the Port of Newcastle, that will enable businesses to access global markets.
Advancements in farming technology and on-farm storage will also increase Inland Rail efficiency, enabling it to move increased volumes of product off the roads and via the rail network.
High value agriculture
Our strategic position in the heart of the most productive grain region in Australia means there are opportunities to support value-adding industries, such as: fertiliser manufacturers, grain products, meat products, nut processing
The Moree SAP development is great news for the community of Moree and the entire North West NSW. The development of a SAP is a process led by the NSW Government, which will work closely with Moree Plains Shire Council, community industry and stakeholders.
Moree Plains Shire Council is excited about the opportunities this will create and, with the NSW Government, we will actively seek community support and input.
